《论语》,是孔子弟子及再传弟子记录孔子及其弟子言行而编成的语录文集,成书于战国前期。全书以语录体为主,叙事体为辅,较为集中地体现了孔子及儒家学派的政治主张、伦理思想、道德观念及教育原则等,有恒久的价值。本书精选其中一百则,分为“论仁”“论礼”“论孝悌”“论政”“论知性”“论教与学”等主题,将孔子对道德、教育、修身、齐家、治国的看法和他的崇高理想系统地表现出来。每篇均加中文注释、生僻字注音以及全篇英译、白话文翻译。

作者简介

丁往道(1924—2010),我国著名语言学家、翻译家。1946年毕业于四川大学外语系,1950年起在北京外国语学校英语系任教。长期从事写作和文体教学研究及中国文化的译介。编写有《当代英文散文选读》《英语文体学引论》《英语写作手册》等。

本书特色

子曰:“刚、毅、木、讷近仁。”(13.27)
白话译文:
孔子说:“刚强、坚定、质朴、寡言这四种品格接近仁德。”
Being Firm, Resolute, Simple and Reticent
Confucius said, “Being firm, resolute, simple and reticent is close to being humane.”(13.27) 和为贵
有子曰:“礼之用,和为贵 。先王之道,斯为美,小大由之。有所不行,知和而和,不以礼节之,亦不可行也。”(1.12)
白话译文:
有子说:“礼的实行,以达到人们和谐相处为可贵。过去圣王治国之道的好处就在这里,无论大事小事都以和谐为准。但是也有行不通的地方,只知道要和谐,不用礼来调节,是行不通的。”
The Rites and Harmony
Youzi said, “The most valuable use of the rites is to achieve harmony. In harmony lies the most beautiful of the ways of the former sage-kings. Whether they dealt with important or unimportant things, they started from harmony. But there may be places where this principle does not work: pursuing harmony because one knows of it without regulating it with the rites is not feasible.”(1.12)
