The author Qiguang Zhao was diligent in pursuing his studies and committed to spread Chinese culture in his whole life without any slacking on his mission. In 1982, he went to study in the US on a work-study basis and achieved doctoral degree in comparative literature at the University of Massachusetts. After that he joined in Carleton College as a tenured professor and endowed chair professor. In 2010, State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs P.R. China invited Qiguang Zhao as a “Key Recommended Expert” and Tongji University invited him as specially engaged professor. Moreover, Qiguang was also invited as a guest researcher by Tsinghua University and as a guest professor by Nankai University and Tibet University.
It’s a great pity that Qiguang died from a rip tide while swimming in the sea of Miami on his 67th birthday last March. In commemoration of the 1st anniversary of Qiguang’s death, Dolphin Books publishes this book. Thousands miles away in America, Zhao Qiguang took a look at China and recorded the significant changes from cross-cultural perspective. Through reading this book, readers at home and abroad could learn about Chinese culture with a long history and get to know a real China.
