本书是浙江省省级实验教学示范中心建设项目(2010[183])经费资助成果。本书在参考了国内外英美文学读本的基础上,精选了英美文学中的经典作品片段,力求在有限的篇幅内为英语专业学生和广大英语爱好者提供文学精粹的读本。因此,本书把英国文学和美国文学糅合在一起,按照不同的文学体裁把全书分为三个篇章:诗歌篇、小说篇、戏剧篇。每个篇章分为两部分:理论篇和赏析篇。理论篇介绍了相关的文学术语,便于学生查阅解惑。赏析篇选编了英美文学中各个时代具有代表性的名家名品选段,并附有作家简介、作品简介、注释、思考题和推荐书目等。
