本书是全国高职高专医药院校工学结合“十二五”规划教材。全书分为12个单元。每个单元涉及提高学生相关信息收集能力的医学图表、提高学生医护职业场景会话能力的情景对话、提高浅显医护英语文章阅读能力的医学视野和医院故事。
本书根据教育部高教司颁布的《高职高专教育英语课程教学基本要求（试行）》的相关内容，参考全国医护英语水平考试（METS）大纲的部分要求，针对职业院校医药类学生的具体情况进行编写。本书体现“实用为主”“够用为度”的思路，力求使教学内容与学生职业场景相结合。
本书供护理、临床医学、助产、中医学、药学等医学类及相关医学类各专业使用，亦可供有初级英语基础的医护人员在职自主学习。
