本书选择216首唐诗词进行英译，包括唐朝著名诗人如王昌龄、李白、杜甫、杜牧等的诗歌以及一些脍炙人口、人们耳熟能详的唐诗，涉及的诗歌形式有五言、七言、五绝、七绝、五律、七律等。本译著的创新之处在于每首诗做严格押韵，英文字数也作限制，无限接近原文字数，尽量还原中国古诗词中的诸如修辞以及意象之美，通过比较，引导读者对唐诗英译技巧与理论有更深刻的认识。
