胡适（1891—1962）在本书“前言”的“附注”中有言：“这本关于‘古代中国逻辑方法的发展’的著作，是我于1915年9月至1917年4月在纽约时写的。它是哥伦比亚大学哲学系接受我申请哲学博士学位的部分要求。1917年7月，我回国后，继续研究中国古代哲学史，并写成《中国哲学史》第一卷。……它所涉及的时期与这篇学位论文相同，而实际所使用的资料都包括在这本较早的英文著作中。”
1922年10月，本书以The Development of the Logical Method in Ancient China为书名由上海亚东图书馆出版，本次影印的即该版本。1982年，中国逻辑史研究会翻译了此书，由李匡武校订，1983年12月由上海学林出版社出版。
在本书的“导论”中有一言，可见胡适著此书之用心，“我认为非儒学派的恢复是绝对需要的，因为在这些学派中可望找到移植西方哲学和科学最佳成果的合适土壤。关于方法论问题，尤其是如此。”
作者简介
胡适（1891—1962），1910年赴美国留学，1917年回国受聘北京大学，1919年出版《中国哲学史大纲》，1922年上海亚东图书馆出版英文博士论文《先秦名学史》。
本书特色
