《实用英语》系列教材1995年面世以来，本系列教材以其先进的编写理念和鲜明的职业特点，历经20余年的教学实践检验，获得广泛认可。系列教材先后获评“面向21世纪课程教材”“教育部高职高专规划教材”“普通高等教育‘九五’教育部重点教材”“普通高等教育‘十五’国家级规划教材”“普通高等教育‘十一五’国家级规划教材”和“‘十二五’职业教育国家规划教材”；《实用英语》（第二版）被评为“全国普通高等学校优秀教材一等奖”，第四版被评为“普通高等教育‘十一五’国家级规划教材”精品教材。 当前，《国家中长期教育改革和发展规划纲要（2010-2020年）》与《国家教育事业发展“十三五”规划》已进入收宦阶段，随着《国家职业教育改革实施方案》和《教育部关于职业院校专业人才培养方案制订与实施工作的指导意见》的陆续出台，职业教育外语教学面临重大机遇和挑战。为顺应“立德树人”“文化自信”和“讲好中国故事”等政策导向，根据新时期高职高专院校英语教学的新趋势，以及职业院校师生的反馈意见，我们对《实用英语》系列教材进行第五次修订。
