Dr. Tory C. Hill
Dr. Tory C. Hill is an educational leader who is passionate about creating personalized learning experiences that empower students to create their future. Dr. Hill is the proud Superintendent of Schools for Sweeny Independent School District, a diverse district of over 2000 students from across 177 square miles of Brazoria County.
Dr. Hill was born in the small town of Palmetto, Louisiana. He holds a Doctoral Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University where his research focused on formative assessments developed collaboratively through professional learning communities. He also received a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Florida A&M University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Southern University.
Dr. Hill served as a social studies teacher in Georgia, Florida, and Texas. He was an assistant principal at Cinco Ranch High School and later became the principal at Mayde Creek Junior High, both in Katy Independent School District. After serving as principal, he became the Executive Director for Professional Learning in Clear Creek Independent School District where he oversaw all professional learning, facilitated leadership development, and designed professional learning plans to support staff in 1-to-1-technology integration.
Prior to Sweeny ISD, Dr. Hill served as an Area Assistant Superintendent for Instructional and Administrative Support in Katy Independent School District. In this role, he supported 23 diverse, high-performing schools in providing personalized learning experiences through the use of engaging strategies, student voice, and technology integration. He built leadership capacity through professional development, learning walks, innovation think tanks, data analysis, and mentoring. He also evaluated principal performance and supported leaders in developing continuous improvement models.
Dr. Hill serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development as well as the Houston Area Alliance of Black School Educators. He is a nationally certified Principal Mentor through the National Association of Elementary School Principals. He also serves on the Dr. Jay Cummings Demonstration Schools design team, a project which recognizes schools across Texas that have successfully met the academic and social needs of minority students. He was recognized by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals as the 2013 Region IV Principal of the Year and was selected by Raise Your Hand Texas to represent the state at the 2010 Harvard University Urban School Leadership Institute.
He is a lifelong learner who continuously gives back to fellow educators by facilitating professional learning conference sessions for Texas Association of School Administrators, Texas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, Texas Alliance of Black School Educators, Learning Forward, and American Association of School Administrators.
