随着我国水利水电事业的改革开放发展，涉外水事和对外学术交流活动日益增多，因此要求我国的水利水电建设者应该具有一定的外语水平。《水利水电工程（专科起点本科）专业系列教材：水利工程专业英语》即是为中央广播电视大学培养水利水电工程专业学生所编写的专业英语教材。 遵照中央广播电视大学对该专业学生的培养目标和对本课程的要求，依据电视大学教学和学习的特点，编者确定了本教材主要的编写原则如下： 1.教材内容全面、系统地介绍水利水电专业的基本知识。 （1）按照现代水利的内涵选定课程内容。即课文中包括了水利水电的规划、工程、环境、经济、管理等方面的有关知识。其中的工程部分全面、具体地介绍各种水工建筑物和水电站建筑物。 （2）介绍水利水电工程的新型结构、新技术、新材料等，如堆石面板坝、抽水蓄能电站、碾压混凝土坝、土工织物、有限单元法等。 （3）介绍国内外著名的水利水电工程，如伊泰普、长江三峡工程等。
